Visionary Wildcats
City: Dallas
Participants: 145
Students in the Thriving Minds After School program at G. W. Carver Elementary School in Dallas have “adopted” the residents at Lake West Rehabilitation Center, just down the street from their school. The Wildcats thought that it might be sad to be in a nursing home and not have things to brighten up your day. They thought they could do something to help add joy and cheer for these men and women as they work on getting well.
They are creating something for their new friends each month. They meet as a team and decide what they will do each month, then the team works together to make enough for all of the residents. So far they have created: autumn trees with written greetings and leaf people (October), Thanksgiving cards (November), fleece pillows and standing angel greeting cards (December) and snowflake placemats (January).
